HEARD THIS LATELY?

QUOTE FROM EDITOR IN THE STANLEY GIBBONS  INTRODUCTION SECTION TO THE 1939 CATALOGUE "STAMPS OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE".

"NEW REIGN ISSUES. Following on the Empire-wide issues for the Silver Jubilee and the coronation come the stamps of the reign of King George VI. We presume the issue of practically the whole of these in the course of a few months was unavoidable . However this may be, the FLOOD of new issues has out-run the normal buying capacity of the stamp-collecting public and if the sharp reduction in trade orders for these stamps proves to the Colonial authorities that there is a limit to what the public can buy, much good may have been done".
